Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is a process by which a dental professional uses proven techniques to improve the appearance of your smile. A dentist can use several different cosmetic dental techniques to improve your smile. Treatment will vary from person-to-person, depending on your smile and the type and extent of cosmetic dentistry you decide to undergo.

Some of the common cosmetic dentistry procedures include the following:

  • Bonding: Is a process where teeth that might be cracked, chipped, broken, or have too much space between them can be aesthetically improved. Tooth bonding uses materials that your dentist ìbondsî to the surface of your tooth. Your dentist can work with you on what materials to use and what outcomes you will see as a result of bonding treatment.
  • Braces: Can be used in young people and in adults. Treatment with braces depends on your unique teeth placement. Braces usually include long-term treatment with an orthodontist. Your dental professional can recommend an orthodontist and will work together to straighten and improve the appearance of your teeth.

  • Enamel shaping: Treatment process where your dentist shapes and contours the appearance of your tooth enamel. Enamel shaping is usually quick and immediately effective in improving the appearance of your teeth.
  • Tooth whitening: A form of bleaching. This procedure brightens discolored or stained teeth. Depending on your needs, tooth whitening may require in-office treatment or an approved at-home tooth-whitening treatment. Be sure to talk to your cosmetic dentist about what the tooth-whitening treatment entails and what you can expect based on that treatment. 
  • Porcelain veneers: Are custom-made shells placed over the front of your teeth. Dental veneers can hide spaces between teeth, cover damaged (e.g., chipped, stained) teeth, and greatly improve the appearance of your smile.
